Why does General History(esp Books) state that the ViethMinh were far inferior to the French in Dien Bien Phu?

I welcome Para to talk shop with the big boys. Yes you are correct about the only thing the Viet minh lacked was air power but stupid French strategy is what failed the French Dien Bien Phu. The French sought this battle that's why the garrison was there, it was to draw the Vietnamese into a set piece contest which the French thought they would surely win. Dien Bien Phu was strong and manned by elite French troops but they underestimated the Vietnamese determination. Gen. Giap reduced these fortified French positions piece by piece with human wave tactics, massed artillery fire and siege works. They hauled artillery guns hand by hand under conditions of extreme hardship. Under unrelenting barrages of artillery fire the Vietnamese attacked again and again until all 13,000 defenders were killed or captured.
