Who are the Palestinians and what happened to them?

Can anyone give me a solid, honest, answer to this and shed some light on the whole Israel/Arab conflict? I know that I'm palestinian on my dad's side and since he died I've been trying to find out more information about who I am and where I come from but unfortunately there isn't a lot of good info out there. I've read comments on this topic where people just say that all palestinians are terrorists and suicide bombers, and hey maybe a lot of terrorists are palestinian, I know I'm not a terrorist but how can i speak for people that I know so little about? I'm really just looking for a completely unbiased answer to give me a little insight on my history and if you can't give me that then don't answer because i'd really rather read about a bunch of strangers calling my dad an evil murderer, it doesn't feel too good.
